TENNIS IN TURLOCK

On Saturday and Sunday September 8th & 9th the City of Turlock Parks & Recreation Division in association with Premier Tennis held the 1st Annual Junior Tennis Tournament.  Matches were held at Crane Park and Turlock High School.  “We had 32 kids signed up and played 58 matches over the two days” said Bill Weber, Tournament Director of Premier Tennis.  “Through our generous corporate sponsors and tournament entry fees we were able to raise over $600 towards the Crane Park Tennis Court renovation project.  These are the only two city owned public courts available in Turlock and we are trying to rejuvenate them for all to use.  Recently the lights have been upgraded with eight 1000 watt fixtures and last year through a generous donation we were able to replace the old worn nets.”  He will hold additional events in the spring for both junior and adult players to benefit the Crane Park courts.  “All in all, I am pleased with our first city tournament.  All the matches ran smoothly and I believe the kids had fun.  We had a 12 & under co-ed novice division for first time players.  These kids played 6 matches over 2 days!”  David Lazar who just picked up a racquet about a month ago won the novice category.  For more photos from the tournament or for more information on tennis programs in Turlock please visit www.premier-tennis.com or contact Bill Weber at 604-BILL (2455)

LOCAL TENNIS PRO SERVES UP BOOK ON SUCCESS

December 15, 2008

TURLOCK — Using lessons learned on the tennis court and the boardroom, tennis pro Bill Weber has written a guide on how to achieve your best performance.

In “Amp It Up, Train Your Brain for Success,” Weber, an award-winning United States Professional Tennis Association teaching pro, gives readers the secret to reaching their highest potential in sports, business and life.

Weber, 51, said his life and practical experiences as a corporate manager, business owner and tennis pro, taught him the traits, skills and characteristics shared by all highly successful people.

“Amp It Up,” is the acronym for what the Turlock resident teaches: Attitude, Mental State, Preparation, Intensity, Tenacity, Unyielding Standards, and Passion.

“I’ve been to all these different motivational seminars, over the years, and they’re all saying the same thing just using different words,” said Weber.  “However, I believe I have an easier delivery system.”

It’s a system based on his proven method of teaching youngsters how to play tennis.  “I have a burning desire to improve any player,” said Weber. “I wrote the book so even a 10-year old could understand.”

Noted sports professionals and business leaders also are quick to understand Weber’s message.

“Whether it’s in the boardroom or locker room, the “Amp It Up” principles are the same,” said Dick Gould, John L. Hinds Director of Tennis, Stanford University. “I recommend “Amp It Up” for anyone striving to excel in their field.”

“Amp It Up” is priced at $20 and available at Brenda Athletic Clubs in Modesto and Turlock and online at: www.BillWeberBooks.com.
